Study Spanish in the city of the Eternal Spring: Medellín, in Colombia! In Medellín, also called ‘the most innovative city in the world’, you will see here an abundance of green parks, libraries, museums and public spaces where many cultural events take place.

Our Spanish language school is located in Las Lomas. Las Lomas is a nice, hilly area of Medellín that belongs to El Poblado. The school is located 10 minutes from Parque Lleras, the city’s main nightlife area, full of restaurants, bars and clubs.

The Spanish school has bright and modern classrooms, a common area and a kitchen where the Colombian cooking classes take place. There is also a garden with a small swimming pool. A small student residence is located in this same building. There are Wi-Fi and a lovely park located just in front of the school.

In Medellín, the Spanish courses are focussed on the interests of the students. Most students choose the standard Spanish group course: 15 hours of Spanish lessons and 5 hours of cultural classes per week. Other Spanish courses on offer are Spanish and Business, Spanish and Medical vocabulary, Spanish & Volunteer and Spanish & Dance. Of course, you can also take individual Spanish lessons in Medellín.

The maximum amount of students per class is 8, but generally, there are 3 to 4 students per class at each level. A placement test upon arrival will determine your level of Spanish. The Spanish courses are approved by both the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), as well as the Common European Framework of references for languages (CEF) guidelines.

In Medellín, you can choose to stay in the student residence or with a Colombian host family while learning Spanish. The student residence is located in the same building as the school. There is a single room with a shared bathroom and a shared room (maximum of 4 students) with a private bathroom. If you like to live close to the school.... this is as close as you can get.

If you prefer a homestay, you will be living with a Colombian host family. How nice to be sharing your daily life with Spanish speaking people – a great way to practice your Spanish! Breakfast and dinner are both included, and you will be picked up from your host family on the first day of class. Laundry is included once a week, and there is a washing machine available. Homestays are chosen carefully to ensure that you have a comfortable and pleasant experience.

The school offers a variety of cultural activities. These activities will help you practice Spanish, get to know the Colombian culture and have fun with other students while exploring the vibrant city of Medellin. Popular activities are Colombian cooking classes and of course the salsa dance classes. You will also visit Medellin's beautiful green parks and plazas, do sightseeing tours, visits to concerts and walks in the nearby nature.

Colombia has 34 natural parks and a growing number of nature reserves. Furthermore, the northern coast offers perfect conditions for exciting water sports and is well-known for its many modern beach resorts.

The beautiful town of Medellín, with approximately 3 million inhabitants, is situated in a beautiful, deep valley and is surrounded by amazing mountains. Once known as ‘ the most dangerous city in the world’ due to the drug-related violence of Pablo Escobar, the city has now transformed completely. Boasting a warm climate –thanks to it’s proximity to the equator-, the people of Medellín have converted the city into an amazing array of botanical gardens with a lively culture. Medellín is a medium-sized town where all the “hot spots’ are situated very close to each other, linked by the bus and metro systems. Medellín is now a must-visit city in Latin America.

With our volunteer program in Medellín, you have the opportunity to pair a Spanish course with volunteer work at a hospital, orphanage, University or charity organisation. This program is (mainly) for professionals who not only want to learn Spanish but also want to dive into the culture and give back to Colombian society.
