SPANISH PROGRAM IN SANTIAGO DE CUBA
You can start your Spanish course in Santiago on any Monday throughout the year. There are three different course types: Spanish Language course, Language and Dance course and Language and Music course. The dance course can be salsa, mambo or rumba, and any level is welcome, from beginner to advanced. Lessons are taught by qualified teachers of the Escuela Nacional de Arte (E.N.A) and normally take place in a host family´s house.
The music course consists of percussion and guitar, and it takes place in either the house of a host family or of the music teacher. Please note that there might be a small fee for the rental of musical instruments. The dance and music classes are offered as individual or group sessions, 1 hour per day in the afternoon, 5 days per week.
The classes are interactive, dynamic, and designed to suit your level of Spanish. All teachers are native speakers with university degrees and extensive experience.
ACCOMMODATION IN SANTIAGO DE CUBA
Staying with a Cuban host family is a great way to practice your Spanish and experience the local culture. The families vary from elderly couples to widows, and they are required to have an official license. All homes are within walking distance of each other and of the location of the classes.
Included in your stay with a host family:
- Single and double rooms with air-conditioning or a fan, most with private bathrooms
- Breakfast and dinner (dinner between 18.30 – 20.00 hours)
- Towels and sheets
Laundry is not included, but host families do offer laundry services for a small charge.
ACTIVITIES DURING YOUR SPANISH PROGRAM
The school organizes weekly activities in Santiago. That way, students are able to get a firsthand experience of the culture and enjoy all that Cuba has to offer. There are a variety of activities, such as dance classes (salsa, mambo or rumba), music classes (for example guitar class), swimming, a guided city tour in Santiago de Cuba, or a meeting with Santeria priests.

Cuba is a beautiful country with very friendly and hospitable people. With its old cars and relaxed atmosphere, it may give you the sensation that you are going back in time. Cuba is a country filled with dancing, music, singing and poetry, and it also has a nice climate. Santiago de Cuba is Cuba’s second largest city, with 420,000 inhabitants. It has been a very important port for almost five centuries and is the birthplace of many artists. Situated in a partly submerged valley, it is bordered by the Sierra Maestra Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, which offers visitors amazing activities that combine adventure, trekking and diving with ecotourism.
EXCURSIONS IN SANTIAGO DE CUBA
The school offers many day and weekend trips in Cuba. The most popular trips include a visit to the Basilica el Combre, the only basilica in Cuba; Gran Piedra, the highest point (1214 m) near Santiago that boasts spectacular views; and Parque Baconao, a large park area.
